Lessons from CNN and their Chief Correspondent Mr Alex Marquardt.
CNN just parted ways with their Chief correspondent months after his story cost network millions in defamation suit, according to Yahoo News, quoting Independent News Paper. Months after Mr Marquardt ,a Chief Correspondent did a story on a security contractor in Afghanistan which resulted in the network paying out millions of dollars to settle a defamation lawsuit, Alex Marquardt announced he was departing CNN as its chief national correspondent.
“Some personal news: I’m leaving CNN after eight terrific years,” Marquardt tweeted on Monday. “Tough to say goodbye but it’s been an honor to work among the very best in the business. Profound thank you to my comrades on the National Security team & the phenomenal teammates I’ve worked with in the US and abroad.”
The issue is not whether Mr. Marquardt resigned or got fired, it is that the man is leaving his job, to find another job or start a new thing. King David of Israel , prayed a prayer “Lord, teach us to number our days” Psalm 90:12. Bible scholars believe correctly that this verse expresses a desire to be mindful of the limited time we have on Earth, prompting us to use our time wisely and cultivate wisdom. Numbering our days involves recognizing the finitude of life and using that awareness to shape our decisions and actions, ultimately leading to a heart of wisdom.
Also, numbering our days essentially teaches us humans to be circumspect in all our actions in life, be it against another human being, organization or government, in church or out of church environment. In other words what goes round comes around, what we sow we shall reap, because there is a time for every purpose under heaven. Some may not believe that heaven exists but science has established that there is a power, authority, supervening over the affairs of man on earth. The lessons we all must draw from CNN and this Chief Correspondent abound. While some may waive his experience as his fault, what will be will be, life goes on, his unplanned exit created a room for another to be elevated, repositioned, fact is, bad things happen to good people. There is purpose for changes on earth. Often if a window does not close,a new door may not open. Mr. Marquardt may be heading to a greater purpose for his life, and whether he realizes this or not is up to him, and a lesson for those who care. The press arrogates arrogates “ Freedom” to itself from time immemorial, after all, they belong to the fourth estate of the realm. They , moderate the conscience of society, uphold fairness and just thoughts and actions supposedly. However the interplay of politics, racism , competition for success, money, and segregation has colored the views on the work of the media and press. Press Freedom like most human endeavors is subject to the scrutiny judgement of the law, the people and the Judicial System. Press Freedom depends on the issues, locations and many circumstances. For example, while the Western Press decides to suppress news concerning the deserving agitations for freedom of Biafrans from Nigeria, twist news regarding age long deprivation of over 18 Nations of Africa by France and her Western Allies that has impoverished these nations until recently with the rise of Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso, there will always be a time for change and each shall reap what it has sown. Change is constant in life, and all including the so called free press, is subject to change. It may be sudden or slowly released.
May our eyes be open to see, and our hearts wise to accept that what we all owe each other is Love and Care in whatever station we find ourselves, on this earth.
